June 17th, 2010 at 7:30p.m.: Roots Among the Rocks

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

Roots Among the Rocks brings together 7 young Christian artists, who have created an engaging performance that they will tour across Canada throughout the summer.  Premiering at General Synod in Halifax in June, and wrapping up at the Canadian Luther Anglican Youth Conference in London in August, Roots Among the Rocks seeks to engage the Anglican and Lutheran church in a compelling conversation about faith, self, journey and community. Conducting interviews, gathering music and images, story sharing, group improvisation, and research, this show is a reflection of where our church is today, and what the future could hold.

We have seen in our recent past the extraordinary voice that young people claim when given a platform – we want to engage that voice intentionally, allowing it to take shape and focus.   When youth have been engaged and empowered to speak and lead, often what emerges has been transformative for the wider church.

Come, hear our story in your own community and join the journey on:

Thursday, April 22nd: Free lecture ‘A Stained Glass Journey’

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

The Ottawa School of Art (OSA) is hosting a free lecture 'A Stained Glass Journey' by Detlef 'Dego' Gotzens on Thursday, April 22nd at 7 p.m. at our downtown campus in Ottawa, at 35 George St. in the ByWard Market. His work can be seen in your church in Montreal, as well as Christ Church Cathedral and St. Joseph’s Oratorio.

Additional work can be viewed in Ottawa in the Memorial Chamber windows – Peace Tower on Parliament Hill, Notre Dame Cathedral and St. Patrick’s Basilica, as well as in Cologne and Manhattan (collaboration with Architect Ali Tayar).

We think that this free lecture will be of great interest to your parish and were wondering if you would be able to promote it on the news section of your website and in any upcoming church bulletins?

The OSA thanks you for your time and consideration.

Kind regards,

meditation

Mindfulness Meditation (MM) Mindfulness Meditation is all about being present for your own life.  If you are constantly worried about the future or reliving the past, you are missing out on the very precious moment you are living now.  Essentially this moment is all that you ever have. MM is as simple and as hard as following your own breathe.  That vital sign of life.  We will cover the benefits of creating a practice, how to get started, how to stay with it, as well as practising the various forms of MM together such as sitting, walking, etc.  There will be handouts, recommended readings, as well as time for questions as they arise.  Kersti Biro, has been a practitioner of MM for years as taught by Thich Nhat Hanh and leads MM groups. Wednesdays 4:45 – 5:30 p.m. beginning October 7th, 2009. Course cost $50.00 for 10 sessions or $8 for drop-ins. Please register with Glenda at 514-849-7577 or call Kersti at 514 481-1109 for more information.
